Irak — Iraqis Arrest 5 al-Qaida in Iraq Associates

WASHINGTON, June 23, 2010 — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces arrest­ed five sus­pect­ed asso­ciates of al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­bers in recent oper­a­tions in north­ern and cen­tral Iraq, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

North­east of Bagh­dad today, Iraqi forces search­ing with U.S. advi­sors for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader believed to be respon­si­ble for attacks on Iraqi and coali­tion forces arrest­ed two sus­pect­ed asso­ciates of the want­ed man. 

South­west of Mosul today, Iraqi forces and U.S. advi­sors searched a build­ing for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader alleged­ly respon­si­ble for the ter­ror­ist organization’s oper­a­tions. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest two sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man. 

West of Bagh­dad yes­ter­day, Iraqi forces and U.S. advi­sors searched sev­er­al build­ings in sep­a­rate loca­tions for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader who alleged­ly is involved in bomb­ing attacks against Iraqi and coali­tion forces. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest a sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciate of the want­ed man.
