Irak — Iraqi Forces Detain 6 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, June 1, 2010 — Iraqi forces detained six crim­i­nal sus­pects in recent oper­a­tions in Iraq, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

In south­west­ern Bagh­dad yes­ter­day, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber and a sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal associate. 

On May 30, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed three sus­pect­ed asso­ciates of the Khataib Hezbol­lah ter­ror­ist orga­ni­za­tion in east­ern Bagh­dad while search­ing for a sus­pect­ed mem­ber of the group who is believed to be respon­si­ble for facil­i­tat­ing trans­porta­tion of weapons to cen­tral Iraq. 

South of Bagh­dad on May 30, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber who alleged­ly has close ties to the organization’s senior leadership.
