USA — Iraqi Forces Arrest 10 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, July 6, 2010 — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed 10 sus­pects with ties to var­i­ous ter­ror­ist orga­ni­za­tions in recent oper­a­tions, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

In west­ern Bagh­dad today, Iraqi forces arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed Kataib Hizbal­lah mem­ber who alleged­ly is involved in road­side-bomb attacks and also is believed to have ties to the ter­ror­ist organization’s leaders. 

North of Bagh­dad yes­ter­day, Iraqi forces searched for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq financier who alleged­ly is respon­si­ble for plant­i­ng road­side bombs tar­get­ing Iraqi and coali­tion forces. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest two sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man. 

On July 3, Iraqi forces arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber alleged­ly involved in facil­i­tat­ing for­eign fight­ers dur­ing a com­bined oper­a­tion with U.S. advi­sors west of Bagh­dad in Abu Ghraib. 

Also on July 3, Iraqi forces and U.S. advi­sors searched in north­west­ern Bagh­dad for a sus­pect­ed Jaysh al-Mah­di ter­ror­ist group mem­ber who alleged­ly is involved in sniper attacks, indi­rect-fire oper­a­tions and bomb­ing attacks against Iraqi and U.S. forces. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest five sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man. 

Near Kirkuk on July 2, Iraqi forces arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber dur­ing a vehi­cle stop con­duct­ed as part of a com­bined secu­ri­ty oper­a­tion with U.S. advisors. 

The sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber alleged­ly is involved in facil­i­tat­ing the move­ment, pro­cure­ment and con­struc­tion of vehi­cles for use as vehi­cle-borne bombs.
