Irak — Iraqis Arrest 4 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2010 — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces arrest­ed four ter­ror­ism sus­pects in two oper­a­tions yes­ter­day, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors in west­ern Mosul arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader who alleged­ly is respon­si­ble for pro­vid­ing fund­ing for ter­ror­ist activ­i­ties and has ties to oth­er high-lev­el al-Qai­da in Iraq lead­ers.

In oth­er news yes­ter­day, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors in Tikrit arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber and two crim­i­nal asso­ciates.

The sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber is believed to have pro­vid­ed plan­ning and facil­i­ta­tion for bomb attacks on civil­ians and Iraqi and coali­tion forces. He also is believed to have ties to oth­er ter­ror­ists.
