India — Replacement of Ageing Cheetah Helicopters

There is a need to replace the present fleet of Chee­tah and Chetak heli­copters with the Indi­an Army and IAF.

Pro­pos­als for pro­cure­ment of 197 Recon­nais­sance and Sur­veil­lance Heli­copters (RSHs) on Buy Glob­al basis and 187 Light Util­i­ty Heli­copters (LUHs) under Design and Devel­op­ment project by Hin­dus­tan Aero­nau­tics Lim­it­ed for Army and Air Force are being pro­gressed. The finance depart­ment has not raised objec­tions regard­ing the tri­al process for selection. 

The pro­pos­al for pro­cure­ment of RSH is pro­gress­ing as per pro­vi­sions of Defence Pro­cure­ment Pro­ce­dure. LUH is at Design and Devel­op­ment phase. This infor­ma­tion was giv­en by Min­is­ter of Defence Shri AK Antony in a writ­ten reply to Shri Piyush­Goy­al in Rajya Sab­ha today.
