USA — National Guard Units to Deploy to Kuwait, Afghanistan

WASHINGTON, March 3, 2011 — The Defense Depart­ment today alert­ed two Army Nation­al Guard brigade com­bat teams to deploy­ments to Kuwait and Afghanistan begin­ning in ear­ly 2012, accord­ing to a DOD news release.
About 7,520 cit­i­zen-sol­diers from the 27th Infantry Brigade Com­bat Team, New York Army Nation­al Guard, and the Penn­syl­va­nia Army Nation­al Guard’s 55th Heavy Brigade Com­bat Team make up the deploy­ing forces.

The 27th IBCT is sched­uled to deploy to Afghanistan to per­form secu­ri­ty force assis­tance. The 55th HBCT is sched­uled for deploy­ment to Kuwait to pro­vide force pro­tec­tion and con­voy secu­ri­ty.
