WASHINGTON, March 3, 2011 — The Defense Department today alerted two Army National Guard brigade combat teams to deployments to Kuwait and Afghanistan beginning in early 2012, according to a DOD news release.
About 7,520 citizen-soldiers from the 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, New York Army National Guard, and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s 55th Heavy Brigade Combat Team make up the deploying forces.
The 27th IBCT is scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan to perform security force assistance. The 55th HBCT is scheduled for deployment to Kuwait to provide force protection and convoy security.
