NATO Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al vis­its Moldo­va

The NATO Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al vis­it­ed the Moldovan cap­i­tal Chisin­au and met with Pres­i­dent Vladimir Voronin. They dis­cussed coop­er­a­tion between Moldo­va and NATO in the frame­work of the Indi­vid­ual Part­ner­ship Action Plan (IPAP)and oth­er issues of com­mon inter­est for NATO and Moldo­va.

Dur­ing the vis­it, the Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al also deliv­ered a speech at the State Uni­ver­si­ty of Moldo­va. In his address, the Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al com­mend­ed Moldova’s con­tri­bu­tion to the inter­na­tion­al community’s efforts in Afghanistan. “Moldova’s com­mit­ment of five heli­copters to the Unit­ed Nations Assis­tance Mis­sion in Afghanistan shows that even rel­a­tive­ly small coun­tries can help to pro­vide secu­ri­ty well beyond their own region.” 

The Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al also met with Deputy Prime Min­is­ter and Min­is­ter of For­eign Affairs Andrei Stratan and with Min­is­ter of Defence Vital­ie Vrabie. 

Final­ly, the Sec­re­tary Gen­er­al vis­it­ed the Infor­ma­tion and Doc­u­men­ta­tion Cen­tre on NATO in Chisinau.
