Iraq — Iraqi Forces Arrest 3 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, Aug. 4, 2010 — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces arrest­ed three sus­pects with ties to al-Qai­da in Iraq in recent oper­a­tions, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors in south­west­ern Bagh­dad were look­ing today for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq leader who alleged­ly is respon­si­ble for facil­i­tat­ing vehi­cle-borne bomb­ing attacks. He also is believed to have close ties to senior mem­bers of the ter­ror­ist orga­ni­za­tion. Iraqi forces iden­ti­fied and arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciate of the want­ed man.

In north­ern Iraq’s Tamim province yes­ter­day, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq weapons facil­i­ta­tor and a sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciate.
