Iraq — Iraqi Forces Arrest 11 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, Aug. 3, 2010 — Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces arrest­ed 11 ter­ror­ism sus­pects in oper­a­tions around Iraq yes­ter­day, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

In Baqou­ba, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors pur­su­ing a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber who alleged­ly is involved in assas­si­na­tions, kid­nap­pings, insur­gent financ­ing, and mor­tar and bomb attacks arrest­ed eight sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man.

Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors in Bagh­dad arrest­ed two sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates while look­ing for an al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber alleged­ly respon­si­ble for extor­tion oper­a­tions and attacks on coali­tion forces.

Near Khalis, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed mem­ber of the Promised Day Brigade ter­ror­ist group who alleged­ly is respon­si­ble for rock­et attacks on coali­tion forces and the facil­i­ta­tion of weapons into Iraq.
