Irak — Iraqis Arrest 5 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, May 27, 2010 — Iraqi forces arrest­ed five ter­ror­ism sus­pects today in com­bined oper­a­tions with U.S. forces advi­sors in Iraq, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

In north­ern Bagh­dad, Iraqi forces and U.S. advi­sors searched a build­ing for a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber who alleged­ly is in charge of dis­trib­ut­ing pro­pa­gan­da mate­ri­als through­out Iraq for the ter­ror orga­ni­za­tion. Infor­ma­tion and evi­dence gath­ered at the scene led Iraqi forces to iden­ti­fy and arrest two sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man.

In an oper­a­tion north­east of Bagh­dad, Iraqi forces work­ing with U.S. advi­sors arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq pro­pa­gan­da dis­trib­u­tor and a sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciate. Iraqi forces search­ing in east­ern Mosul with U.S. advi­sors for a man sus­pect­ed of being a media pro­duc­er for al-Qai­da in Iraq pro­pa­gan­da arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciate of the want­ed man.
