Irak — Iraqi Forces Arrest 12 Terrorism Suspects

WASHINGTON, April 12, 2010 — Iraqi forces, work­ing with U.S. advi­sors, cap­tured a dozen sus­pect­ed ter­ror­ists and killed three oth­ers in oper­a­tions in Iraq in recent days, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.
Yes­ter­day, Iraqi secu­ri­ty forces arrest­ed six sus­pect­ed ter­ror­ists dur­ing three oper­a­tions in and around Bagh­dad.

In west­ern Bagh­dad, Iraqi forces arrest­ed a sus­pect­ed asso­ciate of an al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­ber sus­pect­ed in back­ing vehi­cle-borne bomb­ing attacks. Dur­ing anoth­er oper­a­tion just west of Bagh­dad, a com­bined patrol searched a build­ing for anoth­er al-Qai­da in Iraq Bagh­dad leader sus­pect­ed in vehi­cle-borne bomb­ing attacks against civil­ians and secu­ri­ty forces in the cap­i­tal city. Iraqi forces arrest­ed three sus­pect­ed crim­i­nal asso­ciates of the want­ed man at the scene.

In the third oper­a­tion, Iraqi forces arrest­ed two more sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq ter­ror­ists after search­ing a res­i­dence just west of Bagh­dad for a man sus­pect­ed of being part of the ter­ror organization’s secu­ri­ty ele­ment.

On April 10, Iraqi forces arrest­ed four sus­pect­ed asso­ciates of an al-Qai­da in Iraq weapons deal­er south­east of Bagh­dad after a com­bined team searched three build­ings for an alleged ter­ror­ist leader sus­pect­ed in vehi­cle-borne bomb­ing attacks. Also on April 10, Iraqi forces killed three sus­pect­ed al-Qai­da in Iraq mem­bers and arrest­ed two oth­ers dur­ing a com­bined oper­a­tion in north­east of Tikrit in north­ern Iraq.
