Combined Forces Kill 3 Insurgents, Detain 8 Suspects

BAGRAM, Afghanistan, Nov. 1, 2011 — Afghan and coali­tion forces killed three insur­gents, detained eight peo­ple, and seized three weapons caches in oper­a­tions across Afghanistan yes­ter­day, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

Two insur­gents were killed after engag­ing coali­tion forces with indi­rect fire in the Bar Kunar dis­trict of Kunar province. Anoth­er insur­gent was killed by coali­tion forces after engag­ing a con­voy in the Watah­pur dis­trict of Kunar province.

Afghan police detained five sus­pects in the Pul-e-Alam dis­trict of Log­ar province. Anoth­er per­son was detained after engag­ing Afghan and coali­tion forces with small-arms fire in the Gel­lan dis­trict of Ghazni province. Anoth­er per­son was detained after engag­ing coali­tion forces with small-arms fire in the Chak dis­trict of War­dak province.

Anoth­er per­son was detained by coali­tion forces in the Kusha­mond dis­trict of Pak­ti­ka province.

In the Man­dozai dis­trict of Khost province, Afghan sol­diers con­fis­cat­ed a weapons cache con­tain­ing a rock­et-pro­pelled grenade, an AT-4 round and var­i­ous MK-19 rounds.

Afghan sol­diers seized a cache con­tain­ing three mines and numer­ous machine-gun rounds in the Qarghaee dis­trict of Lagh­man province.

In the She­mal dis­trict of Khost province, coali­tion forces con­fis­cat­ed a 7.6 2mm ammu­ni­tion belt, a shot­gun and a small bag of hashish.
