Combined Force Finds Hashish Cache in Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan, Dec. 13, 2011 — A com­bined Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty force found a drug cache in the Mai­wand dis­trict of Afghanistan’s Kan­da­har province today, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

The cache con­tained about 500 pounds of hashish. The hashish was destroyed.

In oth­er Afghanistan oper­a­tions today:

— A com­bined force dis­cov­ered a drug cache con­tain­ing 200 pounds of mar­i­jua­na in the Pan­jwa’I dis­trict of Kan­da­har province. The mar­i­jua­na was destroyed.

— A com­bined force cap­tured a Tal­iban facil­i­ta­tor in the Dand dis­trict of Kan­da­har province. The facil­i­ta­tor trav­elled to and from Pak­istan, pro­vid­ing insur­gent groups with explo­sives and sup­plies for use in attacks across the region.

— A com­bined force detained sev­er­al sus­pect­ed insur­gents while search­ing for a Tal­iban leader in the Daman dis­trict of Kan­da­har province. The leader con­ducts attacks against Afghan forces and dis­trib­utes explo­sives through­out Kan­da­har province.

— In the Sabari dis­trict of Khost province, a com­bined force detained three sus­pect­ed insur­gents and seized sev­er­al weapons while search­ing for a Haqqani leader. The leader con­ducts attacks on Afghan forces and coor­di­nates the move­ment of bomb-mak­ing mate­ri­als. In Afghanistan oper­a­tions yes­ter­day:

— A com­bined patrol found a weapons cache con­tain­ing six rock­et-pro­pelled grenades, one 82mm mor­tar round, 11 RPG rock­ets and 13 anti-tank mines in the Bagram dis­trict of Par­wan province.
