Combined Force Captures Taliban Leaders

WASHINGTON, Nov. 15, 2011 — A com­bined Afghan and coali­tion secu­ri­ty force cap­tured two Tal­iban lead­ers and detained sev­er­al sus­pect­ed insur­gents in the Musa Qalah dis­trict of Afghanistan’s Hel­mand province yes­ter­day, mil­i­tary offi­cials report­ed.

The insur­gent lead­ers had coor­di­nat­ed the move­ment of fight­ers in the dis­trict, attacked coali­tion forces and dis­trib­uted road­side bombs.

In oth­er Afghanistan oper­a­tions yes­ter­day:

— A com­bined force found nine rock­et-pro­pelled grenades in the Andar dis­trict of Ghazni province.

— A com­bined force cap­tured a Haqqani net­work leader, con­fis­cat­ed weapons and detained a sus­pect­ed insur­gent in the Bak dis­trict of Khost province. The leader dis­trib­uted weapons and planned attacks against Afghan and coali­tion forces.

In Nov. 13 Afghanistan oper­a­tions:

— A com­bined patrol killed sev­er­al insur­gents and wound­ed anoth­er in the Mar­ja dis­trict of Hel­mand province. The wound­ed insur­gent was tak­en for med­ical treat­ment and ques­tion­ing.

— A com­bined patrol killed two insur­gents and seized and destroyed 6,600 pounds of mor­phine, some drug pro­cess­ing equip­ment, two assault rifles and some ammu­ni­tion in the Kaja­ki dis­trict of Hel­mand province.

— In the Nur­gal dis­trict of Kunar province, local civil­ian turned in 28 types of rock­ets and 29 rock­et-pro­pelled grenade pro­pel­lant cas­es to coali­tion forces.
