19 Octo­ber 2011 – Cas­sid­i­an, the defence and secu­ri­ty divi­sion of EADS, intro­duces a new secu­ri­ty radar into the mar­ket which opens up com­plete­ly new oppor­tu­ni­ties for the wide-area pro­tec­tion of sen­si­tive indus­tri­al or mil­i­tary instal­la­tions. As part of Cassidian’s SPEXER secu­ri­ty radar fam­i­ly, the new SPEXER 1000 has been launched dur­ing the Milipol exhi­bi­tion in Paris.

Our new radar is the first oper­a­tional secu­ri­ty radar using the lat­est dig­i­tal beam form­ing (DBF) tech­nol­o­gy, which enables the ear­ly detec­tion even of sin­gle pedes­tri­ans in all weath­er con­di­tions”, explained Elmar Com­pans, Head of Cas­sid­i­an Sen­sors & Elec­tron­ic War­fare. “Thus, SPEXER 1000 gives police or secu­ri­ty forces addi­tion­al reac­tion time in order to deal with ille­gal intrud­ers. ”

SPEXER 1000 is a secu­ri­ty radar opti­mized for sur­veil­lance of crit­i­cal infra­struc­ture such as oil fields, pow­er plants, har­bors, air­ports or mil­i­tary camps. With an instru­ment­ed range from 0.1 to 18 km and an extreme­ly high update rate it is able to detect sus­pi­cious move­ments on the ground, in the air or over sea at a very ear­ly stage. This is in par­tic­u­lar true for very small and slow­ly mov­ing objects that are reli­ably detect­ed as SPEXER 1000 exploits high doppler res­o­lu­tion.

This ensures a supe­ri­or sur­veil­lance per­for­mance and a high lev­el of sit­u­a­tion­al aware­ness. Due to its low weight, the radar can be deployed in mobile appli­ca­tions on a tri­pod or a vehi­cle, e.g. to mon­i­tor spe­cif­ic vul­ner­a­ble spots in a fast elec­tron­ic-scan­ning mode with­out mov­ing anten­na. The radar has been suc­cess­ful­ly test­ed by a Euro­pean mil­i­tary cus­tomer.

It is part of Cassidian’s SPEXER secu­ri­ty radar fam­i­ly which con­sists of sev­er­al sen­sors, each opti­mized for spe­cif­ic appli­ca­tions in the fields of bor­der, infra­struc­ture, perime­ter and coastal sur­veil­lance. A spe­cif­ic ver­sion for bor­der sur­veil­lance, SPEXER ™ 2000, is under pro­duc­tion for a huge bor­der sur­veil­lance sys­tem in the Mid­dle East; a mil­i­tary ver­sion has been devel­oped for the Ger­man Army.
