CASSIDIAN’s newly developed SPEXER™ 1000 Security Radar

CASSIDIAN’s newly developed SPEXER 1000 Security Radar offers unprecedented level of critical infrastructure protection

  • Early detection capability provides security forces with additional reaction time
  • New member of Cassidian’s SPEXER ™ security radar product family

19 October 2011 – Cassidian, the defence and security division of EADS, introduces a new security radar into the market which opens up completely new opportunities for the wide-area protection of sensitive industrial or military installations. As part of Cassidian’s SPEXER security radar family, the new SPEXER 1000 has been launched during the Milipol exhibition in Paris.

Our new radar is the first operational security radar using the latest digital beam forming (DBF) technology, which enables the early detection even of single pedestrians in all weather conditions”, explained Elmar Compans, Head of Cassidian Sensors & Electronic Warfare. “Thus, SPEXER 1000 gives police or security forces additional reaction time in order to deal with illegal intruders. ”

SPEXER 1000 is a security radar optimized for surveillance of critical infrastructure such as oil fields, power plants, harbors, airports or military camps. With an instrumented range from 0.1 to 18 km and an extremely high update rate it is able to detect suspicious movements on the ground, in the air or over sea at a very early stage. This is in particular true for very small and slowly moving objects that are reliably detected as SPEXER 1000 exploits high doppler resolution.

This ensures a superior surveillance performance and a high level of situational awareness. Due to its low weight, the radar can be deployed in mobile applications on a tripod or a vehicle, e.g. to monitor specific vulnerable spots in a fast electronic-scanning mode without moving antenna. The radar has been successfully tested by a European military customer.

It is part of Cassidian’s SPEXER security radar family which consists of several sensors, each optimized for specific applications in the fields of border, infrastructure, perimeter and coastal surveillance. A specific version for border surveillance, SPEXER ™ 2000, is under production for a huge border surveillance system in the Middle East; a military version has been developed for the German Army.

Cassidian, an EADS company, is a worldwide leader in global security solutions and systems, providing Lead Systems Integration and value-added products and services to civil and military customers around the globe: air systems (aircraft and unmanned aerial systems), land, naval and joint systems, intelligence and surveillance, cyber security, secure communications, test systems, missiles, services and support solutions. In 2009, Cassidian – with around 28,000 employees – achieved revenues of € 5.4 billion. EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2009, the Group – comprising the Divisions Airbus, Astrium, Cassidian and Eurocopter – generated revenues of € 42.8 billion and employed a workforce of more than 119,000.
