Afghanistan — Thousands of Kilos of Illicit Narcotics Destroyed in Helmand

KABUL, Afghanistan — ISAF forces destroyed more than 7,700 kilo­grams of ille­gal drugs seized in oper­a­tions in the pre­vi­ous weeks through­out Hel­mand province.

In total, more than $134 mil­lion (US) in opi­um, hashish, mor­phine and hero­in were burned in accor­dance with Afghan legal pro­ce­dures. Afghan Nation­al Secu­ri­ty Forces along with Marines from 4th and 1st Light Armored Recon­nais­sance bat­tal­ions seized the illic­it nar­cotics from drug traf­fick­ers locat­ed in south­ern Afghanistan.

These drugs, com­bined with anoth­er large seizure ear­li­er this week, brought the total amount of illic­it nar­cotics destroyed in Hel­mand province in the past five days to more than 13,000 kilo­grams.
